Jay-z 99 problems

1) How do the visuals respond to the music?
Black and white- 'gangster' look.
Every other shot is landscape or scenery, story.
cut to music at start
Repetitive shots as music also repeats
Chorus is always spoken- no voice over.
Stereotypical for rap video.

2) To what extent does it follow a narrative?
Not really a narrative, repetitive shots. Around the town in which he lives.

3) What kind of image is the star presenting?
Stereotypical rapper.= big coat lined in fur, chains
Quite hard and dominant.

4) How are the cinematography, mise en scene, editing used in the video- are there any significant features worthy of comment and why are they used?
B&W effect to make use of the grime and rap feeling. No colour.
jump cuts
Repeated shots
Longer screen time on main star showing importance.
Low angle shots and high angle shots showing different angles of the star.
Creates a documentary feel and the idea of a low budgeted video.

5) Is the video literal, disjunctive or amplifying?- give reasons throughout
Mainly amplify but contains some illustrate- 'dog calls' and image of a dark barking.
